The crash occurred when a pick-up truck traveling eastbound on Katella Avenue struck a man walking southbound from Magnolia Street using a marked crosswalk, the California Highway Patrol said Wednesday.

Officers were dispatched to the crash around 1:10 a.m.

The truck, which had not been conclusively identified, was described as “dark-colored” and “possibly a Chevrolet” by authorities. The truck likely sustained “significant front-end damage,” they added.

The man, who was from Long Beach, died at the scene, the CHP added. He was identified as Rick Dale Moore, according to Orange County Sheriff’s Department spokesperson Jaimee Blashaw.

Given the ongoing investigation, authorities urged anyone with information on the crash to contact them at (714) 892-4426.
