Anaheim police shoot and wound suspect at a Buena Park home

Anaheim police shot and wounded a person after that person ran from officers and hid inside a Buena Park home on Friday evening, authorities said.

Officers were called to the area of Lincoln and Western avenues about 4:15 p.m. after a caller reported an individual brandishing a gun from a vehicle, said Anaheim police Sgt. Shane Carringer.

When police spotted a person who they said they believed to be the suspect, the individual began to run from officers.

The individual ran north into the city of Buena Park, eventually holing up inside a home on Adams Way near Grand Avenue, Carringer said. Police surrounded the home and while a SWAT team prepared to enter, the individual ran from the home.

While the person ran from the home, an Anaheim police officer shot and struck the individual, Carringer said.

The individual was taken to a local hospital to undergo surgery.

Unclear what prompted the officer to shoot, or whether a firearm was located at the scene, Anaheim police declined to comment further on the case.

Buena Park police, which did not immediately respond to calls, and the Orange County District Attorney’s Office are likely to investigate the shooting.

Friday’s shooting was the second incident over the past week where Anaheim police shot and wounded a suspect.

Anaheim police shot at a man on Monday while officers surveilled an apartment during a kidnapping investigation. The man’s injuries were described as non-life-threatening and he was expected to survive.
