Anaheim police seek man seen kicking dog in apartment building hallway

Anaheim police are searching for a man seen on a Ring doorbell video hitting and kicking a dog in the hallway of an apartment complex, authorities said.

Police were made aware of the video Thursday night, Sept. 15, Anaheim police Sgt. Shane Carringer said, but it wasn’t known specifically when the attack occurred.

Detectives went to the Gateway Apartment Homes, on South State College Boulevard just south of Angel Stadium, Friday morning to begin investigating, Carringer said.

The video appears to show a man wearing a soccer jersey with “Fly Emirates” across the chest going after a black dog in the hallway. The man takes a swing at the dog as it cowers in a corner, then kicks the dog twice before attaching a leash.

The man then takes two more kicks at the dog as they walk down the hallway, away from the camera.

Though a specific date and time it happened was not known, a Ring doorbell camera posted online showed a timestamp of 3:25 p.m. Thursday.

Anaheim police have received “tons of tips,” Carringer said, adding that the assistance from the public was appreciated. As of Saturday morning, detectives had made headway in the case, but the suspect was still outstanding.

“You see it and you automatically have that internal gut reaction that it’s intolerable behavior that we have to intervene upon,” Carringer said. “So that’s absolutely what we’ll do.”

Whether the man could face possible misdemeanor or felony charges is not yet known. Misdemeanor charges would be prosecuted by the Anaheim city prosecutors, while felony charges would be handled by the Orange County District Attorney’s Office, Carringer said.
