Laguna Beach won its seventh in a row out of the gate, topping the Vaqueros 58-44 behind the 23-point effort of Blake Burzell. Grady Morgan added 14 points for the Breakers.
Irvine (3-3) was led by Josh Alcindor, who matched his jersey number with a season high 33 points.
“Obviously Josh played well but we need other guys to make shots,” said Irvine Coach Kris Klamberg. “We need more than one guy to be able to score and to be able to stay in a game against a good opponent like that.
“He’s (Alcindor) been putting in the work so it was good for him to be able to come out and show it. But teams are going to know who he is and once we get it league, it’s going to get harder. We’re going to need other guys to make plays and make shots and take a load off of him.”

No other Irvine player scored in double figures.
Laguna Beach led, 35-25, at halftime but Irvine cut the lead to two in the third quarter before the Breakers took charge again.
“They made a nice little run on us and I thought we just kept our composure and found a way back in, but when it becomes close, you got to be able to execute and guys have to be able to knock down shots,” Klamberg said.
Chase Porter added 4 points for Irvine, which competes in the Gary Raya So Cal Elite beginning Tuesday when it hosts JSerra at 7 p.m.
Irvine’s victories came against Orangewood Academy (73-36), Godniez (43-40) and Segerstrom (51-44).
“I’m pleased with where we’re at,” Klamberg said. “Just like everybody else, we’re still trying to find ourselves a little bit. I like the way we competed tonight, I will say that.”
