85-year-old pedestrian struck, killed in Fountain Valley parking lot

An 85-year-old pedestrian was struck by a car and killed late Saturday in a Fountain Valley parking lot.

Officers shortly after 4:30 p.m. responded to reports of a woman being struck by a driver backing a Lexus SUV out of a parking space in a lot at 18405 Brookhurst Street, according to a Fountain Valley Police Department statement.

Police say after striking the woman, the driver “subsequently drove over her.” The woman was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Authorities are waiting until the woman’s family is notified before releasing her name.

The driver of the Lexus stayed at the scene and was cooperative with investigators, according to the police statement. Police identified the driver only as a 70-year-old Fountain Valley woman.

Officers say neither alcohol nor drugs appear to have played a role in the fatal collision, though the investigation is ongoing. No arrests were reported.

Investigators are asking anyone who witnessed the collision to contact the department’s traffic bureau at 714-593-4481.
