65-year-old biker struck, killed on 5 Freeway in San Clemente

A 65-year-old motorcyclist was struck and killed by an SUV on northbound Interstate 5 just north of El Camino Real in San Clemente on Monday morning, Sept. 6, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The CHP was still investigating the cause of the crash on Monday afternoon, according to the Officer William O’Hair.

The male motorcyclist, who was riding a 2010 Harley-Davidson, was pronounced dead at the scene after the accident, which was reported at 10:14 a.m. The victim was from Kansas City, Missouri, but his name was not immediately released.

The SUV, a 2008 Ford Explorer, was driven by a 35-year-old San Clemente man. Also involved in the crash was a 2012 Honda Civic carrying two 27-year-olds, a female driver and male passenger, from Austin, Texas. None of the three was injured, according to O’Hair.

The crash resulted in the closure of two northbound lanes until just before 2 p.m.
