A newly-built Emerald Bay mansion has hit the market for $48.995 million, making it Laguna Beach’s most expensive home currently for sale on the Multiple Listing Service.

Newport Beach-based architectural firm C.J. Light Associates designed the five-bedroom, nearly 5,000-square-foot residence with 10 bathrooms.

It took more than six years of planning and construction to complete. The result?

“A manifestation of boundless creativity and trend-inspiring style” is how listing agent Tim Smith of Coldwell Banker Realty put it.

The house sits across the street from the half-mile-wide stretch of sand that is Emerald Bay Beach, accessible only to residents of the guard-gated community. Its design is a testament to the architectural firm’s penchant for embracing the environment.

Skylights and slide-away glass walls illuminate the interior and frame views of the breaking waves, Catalina Island, towering bluffs and sunsets from most spaces in the home’s Afromosia wood and brushed limestone interior, just beyond the handcrafted teak entry door with the sunburst design.

The open kitchen has Dan Luna-designed walnut cabinetry, Gaggenau appliances and a titanium granite island with an integrated sink and a live-edge walnut table.

An oceanview balcony and patio with a built-in barbecue and dining area connect the kitchen to more than 1,000-square-feet of outdoor living.

The primary suite has glass pocket doors that open to create an open-air spa bathroom with a soaking tub, steam shower and heated floors. Other features of the primary suite include a fire pit in the private ocean-facing patio and an oversized walk-in closet with laundry and a coffee station.

Take the floating stairs or four-stop elevator to the bottom floor for a visit to the wellness center with its outdoor shower, in-ground spa and Nordic infrared sauna.

Other ultra-luxe amenities include a gym, state-of-the-art media lounge, temperature-controlled wine wall and a four-car that “exceeds the quality of most others’ living quarters,” Smith said during a YouTube video tour.

The garage has wood-wall paneling, basalt stone floors, two electric vehicle chargers, motorized accordion doors and built-in catering station.

An MLS search shows the house is the fifth most expensive listing in Orange County.

At the top of that list are two seven-bedroom mansions in Newport Coast’s gated Crystal Cove community for $69.8 million and $59.8 million. Behind them are a $50 million “party palace” in Laguna Niguel that spans 14,500 square feet across 13-acres plus and a seven-bedroom, 12,978-square-foot estate in Irvine’s gated Shady Canyon neighborhood for $49.95 million.
