3 women stabbed in Tustin home; relative arrested

A man described as mentally ill stabbed three family members and refused to leave a home in Tustin for several hours before his arrest on Thursday, April 7, the Tustin Police Department said.

The victims, all women, were expected to survive, a news release said.

Police were called to a home in the 1300 block of Sun Dial Drive at about 7:51 p.m. after the attack. Two of the victims were hospitalized and the third was treated at the scene.

Police learned that the man “has a background in martial arts training and suffers with mental health issues,” the release said.

Tustin police, assisted by officers from Irvine, were able to get the man to peacefully surrender after several hours. A weapon was recovered, the release said.

He was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and elder abuse.
