3.5 earthquake strikes near Temescal Valley

A preliminary 3.5 magnitude earthquake struck southwest Riverside County in the late afternoon Sunday, sending tremors through Corona, Riverside and parts of Orange County.

The epicenter of the quake was detected about 6.5 miles underground at 3:24 p.m., beneath the foothills of the Santa Ana mountains southwest of the Temescal Valley, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

Within a few minutes of the quake, residents in nearby Riverside and North Orange County, and others as far away as Hemet, told the USGS that they felt light shaking from the earthquake, according to the agency’s “Did You Feel It?” survey.

There were no immediate reports of damage.
