Ten drivers and passengers in other vehicles were injured, including one person who was taken to a hospital with moderate injuries, Carringer said. The other nine injured were treated at the scene.
What led to the collision was not immediately released, and the intersection will likely remain closed for the rest of the day while authorities continue to investigate.
Dat Nguyen, a 59-year-old mechanic at a muffler shop across the street, said he saw the crash happen. One of the cars was going an estimated 60 mph-80 mph on Ball and ran a red light, he said. That driver hit a car on Magnolia that had the right of way, he said.
After that, he said, the car that was speeding kept going and hit other vehicles
He said it was the second death this year from a collision at that intersection and suggested the city add a speed bump to the road.
This is a developing story. More information will be added when it becomes available.
