1 dead, 4 injured in Costa Mesa shooting; suspect surrenders

One person was killed and four others were wounded in a Thanksgiving night shooting in Costa Mesa on Nov. 24, authorities said.

Officers were called to the 400 block of West Bay Street about 6:50 p.m. on a report of a shooting and found the victims, police said.

All five were taken to hospitals, where one died and another was in critical condition, Costa Mesa police spokeswoman Roxi Fyad said.

The suspect had fled eastbound on Bay Street in a black pickup truck, but turned himself in early Friday morning, Fyad said. His identity was not released.

The shooting was believed to be isolated, with no threat to the surrounding community, authorities said.

Several evidence markers were seen on the sidewalk near a pickup truck and outside an apartment complex as police investigated.

Further information about the circumstances of the shooting or whether the suspect and victims knew one another was not disclosed.

The victim who died was not identified pending notification of relatives.
